General
Information
(Frequently Asked Questions)
1. I am interested in applying for a teaching position
in the United States. What are the steps I should take?
First, determine whether you meet the criteria
established by PAIR. Then, you may contact
us through whatever means available. If you are found initially
acceptable, you may download the application
forms. Our staff will then discuss with you the costs involved.
If an agreement is reached, our staff will guide you through the entire
process.
2. Where do I have my educational credentials evaluated?
Each state has its own acceptable list of agencies
for education credentialling. For example, the Texas Education Agency recognizes a list of foreign
credential evaluators. PAIR strongly recommends and prefers to submit
the education credentials to Spantran.
3. Why is it necessary to have my credentials reviewed
by a State Board of Education?
An interviewing
officer can initially rely on official documents submitted to his/her
office. Consequently, a declaration from an appropriate State Board
of Education of your eligibility to teach in the United States is
your best credential considered by the interviewing officer. For more
information on out-of-country certified teacher-applicants for the
Texas State
Board of Educator Certification, click here.
4. What are the different hiring options?
Each school district has it own preference for screening
and hiring processes. We call this the matching options.
5. What visa do I expect to get?
For all intents and purposes, you will expect to get
an H-1b visa.
6. Why do I have to go through POEA?
All overseas foreign workers must submit themselves
to the POEA - Philippine Overseas Employment Administration. For this
purpose, you will be assisted by Northwest
Placement, Inc.
7. If hired, how long do I get to stay in the United
States?
The U.S. embassy in Manila determines the validity
of your H-1b visa. Typically, it coincides with the period approved
by the USCIS in the United States. Then, upon arrival in the United
States, the port of entry marks on your I-94 your approved length
of stay in the United States.
8. When may my family join me in the United States?
The U.S. embassy has some leniency in this regard.
You are expected to produce an employment contract and proof of financial
ability to support your family. Typically, you are expected to produce
at least three (3) paychecks. PAIR does not recommend that you bring
your family with you until you are settled, adjusted and have passed
the State Board Exams to qualify as a Standard Teaching Certificate
holder.
9. Am I entitled to apply for permanent residency?
Yes, you are entitled to apply for permanent residency.
Your future school district will be your petitioning employer. Each
school district has its own policy on petitioning for
permanent residency.
10. How much will it cost me to undergo the process?
The Philippine Operations Manager will discuss the
costs with you.
